Hidden away in the laid-back village of Melides, Vermelho is a boutique hotel where bold design and Portuguese craftsmanship come together. Created by fashion designer Christian Louboutin, every room is filled with hand-painted tiles, carefully sourced antiques and bespoke details that celebrate the country's rich artistic heritage. Intimate in size yet full of character, Vermelho feels less like a hotel and more like a beautifully curated home.

Just beyond its doors, Melides invites you to slow your pace. Browse independent galleries, linger over lunch in the village square or follow quiet roads through cork forests towards the Atlantic coast. Wide sandy beaches, rice fields and sleepy fishing villages shape this part of Portugal, where the days feel wonderfully unhurried and the landscape does most of the talking.

The Story Behind Vermelho

Vermelho means 'red' in Portuguese—a nod to Christian Louboutin's iconic red soles. When he bought a home in Melides, he realised there wasn't a place where he truly wanted to dine. His original idea was to open a restaurant, but after the town's mayor encouraged him to create a hotel instead, Vermelho was born—a beautiful celebration of Portuguese craftsmanship, art and design.
